GENERAL INFORMATION 

​

Estonian Artists Association Muhu Art Residency program is open for individual professional artists at any stage of their career, working in visual arts, music, literature and other creative areas.

Residency is most appropriate for artists who seek time out for the critical thinking, individual research and experiments; especially for those who need open spaces in nature.

​

Our main interests are interdisciplinary, as they lie in integration of art with the environment, in more or less poetical interaction between art and society.

Issues of existential border-state will remain at the heart of Muhu Art Residency now and in the future, without favoring one technique to another.

​

In contemporary context our ancient 19. Century farmhouses represent a chance for a  real  “time-out” on rural and ascetic  territory.

LOCATION 

Located in Nõmmküla – a small and quiet seaside village on the north coast of Muhu island, on the edge of the world - as far as 10 km from nearest shop and 150 km from Tallinn  

* The artist works alone
* Muhu Art Residency does not evaluate the artist's work process or finished work
* If possible, the artist will present his work or the results of the work process at the end of the residency, but he is not obliged to do so.

ROOMS

The accomodation rooms in ancient and rustic barns are 8 – 20 m2 in size.

The shared kitchen, sauna and toilet are located in separate  buildings.

Art Residents will be accommodated i​n personal (ancient) barn-living room. Two larger rooms  can be used as private studios (prior agreement required).

​

Please note  - the simple  ascetic living environment of Muhu Residency will take you back to the year 1900 !

TIME-PERIODS AVAILABLE: 15.06.-12.07.2026 and  1 free room in 4 August -3 September)

​

Residency fee per day:

– 1 living room + 1 barn workroom = 35 EUR for one person; 65 EUR for two
– 1 living room = 30 EUR for one person; 50 EUR for two

​

Residency fee per 2 weeks:

​

– 1 living room + 1 barn workroom = 420 EUR for one person; 800 EUR for two

– 1 living room = 400 EUR for one person; 650 EUR for two

PAID BY ARTIST:

​

• Residency  fee,  according to the individual Contract with Muhu Art Residency;

• Personal meals;​

• ​Residents are responsible for their travel to Muhu Residency, local sightseeing trips and other transportations, working materials, food and all personal expenses during their stay in Residency.​

• Health insurance or other personal needs concerning health.

​

​

Muhu Art Residency provides first aid if needed, the nearest ambulatory is 10 km away. For more serious problems, assistance would be needed from Kuressaare (~70 km).
